At HIMSS 2026, Microsoft unveiled a major expansion of Dragon Copilot — its clinical AI assistant — built around a new integration layer called Work IQ that connects Epic patient data directly with Microsoft 365 Copilot. - Multilingual capture. Conversation capture now supports dozens of languages, widening access for non-English-speaking care teams.
- A partner marketplace. Third-party health tech vendors can now build on top of Dragon Copilot, turning it into a distribution channel rather than a single-purpose tool.
Microsoft reports the platform already supports well over 100,000 clinicians across nine countries — this isn’t a pilot-stage feature set.
How the Epic–Microsoft 365 Connection Actually Works

1. The Teams EHR Connector (the existing foundation). This is the piece many organizations already have: a connector that lets clinicians launch Teams virtual visits directly from Epic Hyperspace, Haiku, or Canto, with patients joining through the Epic patient portal or an SMS link. It requires an active Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare or Teams EHR Connector license, an Epic version from November 2018 or later, and a FHIR-based configuration completed jointly with an Epic technical specialist.
